Dolores Gimenez

Biography

Dolores Gimenez, is boned in the losson of a gipsy family.
She begins her learning, in a elf-taught way, learnig from the flamenco parties that she had previonsly seen in her family.

When she is nine years old, she wins the first flamenco dancing award in a catalan festival.

In 1974, she takes part in a concert in the "Palacio de los deportes de Barcelona", accompaning the group "Rumba tres". The concert was organized by the "40 Principales".

In 1977, she learns flamenco dancing, she takes lessons from the great teacher, and flamenco dancer Concha Borrull, daughter of the great guitar maestro "Miguel Borrull".

In 1978 she acts in the sportcentre "Santa Coloma de Gramanet" (Barcelona), accompanied by the guitar of Manzanita, she shares stage with artists such as: La Paquera de Jerez, Enrique de Melchor, etc. And as she once said, she had the great pleasure of sharing stage with the great flamenco singer "Camaron de la Isla".

In 1980, she is emplayed by the "tablao flamenco Cordobes" in Barcelona.

In 1984, she takes acting lessons with the actor Albert Moya. In that year, the theather company "Sitel" opened, wchich she takes part in, being one of the main actresses.

At the end of 1986, she makes her first appereance with her flamenco show in the "Ateneo Popular de 9 Barris".

In march 1987, she moves to Madrid. She opens the cultural centre "Lavapies", with her new show.

She makes sweral performances in the tablao "Corral de la Pacheca" in Madrid".

In 1988, she is emplayed by the tour "Flamenco de hoy" shating stage with artists such as: Pepe Habichuela, Rafael Riqueni, Antonio Canales, Carmen Linares, Chato de la Isla, etc.

Fhat year she is interviewed by the yournalist Maite Contreras, for the magazine "Elle", in an article titled "The way new gipsy woman think".

In this article she is accompanied by the flamenco dancer Carmen Cortés and Azúcar Moreno.

In 1989, she makes a break in her carer because she is pregnant.

 

In April 1994, she comes back again after hawing her baby, in the "Sala Flamenca CASA PATAS", with her new show, accompanied by her hustand´s Fernando Mejias, guitar, Felipe Maya, and Jerónimo, and the flamenco singers Rafael Jimenez "Falo", Jose Jimenez, and Angel Gabarre. They decided to go on playing the show two days more.

In 1995, she opens the Flamenco Cultural Association´s "Carmen Amaya", with her husband Fernando Mejías. she is the association, because she teaches flamenco dancing lessons and she is the association, because she teaches flamenco dancing lessons and she is the association´s flamenco ballet director.

En 1.997:
Tres actuaciones realizadas en la semana de la mujer, organizado por la Dirección General de la Mujer.
El programa Sorpresa Sorpresa de Antena 3.
Fiestas de Aluche, compartiendo cartel con Jose Manuel Soto.

En 1.998:
En la Feria de Andalucia en Madrid, en el Estadio de la Peineta.
En el 50 aniversario de los Derechos Humanos en la Casa de Campo, organizado por la Dirección General de la Mujer.
In the middee of 1998, she prepares her flamenco show "MI FUERZA INTERIOR". in wchich she feels like returning to the stage, but this time accompanied by a group of flamenco dancers, wchich consist on six flamenco dances, two flamenco singers, flamenco guitar, vientos, contrabass and violin. That year, she takes part in the TV programme "Gente de Palabra" of Antena 3 for latinoamérica, wchich was presented by Olga Viza, performing a piece of the show "MI FUERZA INTERIOR"
In 1999, she performs this show alone, withaut the flamenco group of dances, for the first time in "Sala de Música Caja Madrid", in Alcalá de Henares.

She has collaborated in the Bigas Luna´s film "Volaberunt".

She performs for the first time the show "Suite Flamenca", on december the third, in the theatre "Zazuar" in Madrid.

At the end of december, she collaborates with the theatre company "Elfo" making the choreography of "La Tarara" for a Federico García Lorca, play "El amor de D. perlimplin con Belisa en su jardin" wchich was performed for the first time in the theatre "Pradillo" in Madrid.

In 2.000, she tours across Cataluña with the merger group "Ojos de Brujo", and frishes in december, in "Sala Suristan", in Madrid.

Nowadays she is preparing sewral choreographies for the videoclips of this group.

In May of 2001 with the same band “OJOS DE BRUJO” she collaborate in the presentation of the first album in the concert local “Sala Revolver” in Madrid

7th of July she perform in “Pirineo Sur”, in the 10th international festival of culture.

In the same month she also perform in “ETNOSUR” Festival, in Jaén besides the” GREC” festivals in Barcelona.

In 2002 participate in the “Tahita” video clip recording which is an OJOS DE BRUJO composition, and later on in April she perform with the same Band in “Circulo de Bellas Artes” in Madrid.

She makes the choreography “Ida y Vuelta al Flamenco”, which she uses a piece of it to present it in a Teatro Albeniz dance competition

She collaborate in the OJOS DE BRUJO second album called “Bari”

She participate in the documentary film called “El Gran Gato” with OJOS DE BRUJO (Gato Perez tribute).

She presents in Ocotber in “Valdemoro theatre” ( Madrid ) the choreography “Jugando a Bailar”

In November she perform in the “Solo Música” 5th anniversary with OJOS DE BRUJO in” Pacha” (Madrid)
